A Weather Ouchy

by Rev. A. J. Iovine

You would think that it summer considering I’ve been away from the blog for a couple of weeks…

It is Wednesday the 18th and tonight, we have worship here at church beginning at 7:00pm. The weather is pretty ugly outside right now — humidity and temperatures are high. Later on, pretty nasty thunderstorms are expected to cross the area, crushing the heat and bringing our weather back to somewhat normal starting tomorrow.

Basically, I am instructing you not to go crazy and trek out to church this evening if the weather continues to be ugly. Take the night off – we’ll be back in church this Saturday at 5pm and Sunday at 9:30am. Of course, I will be in church this evening.

Overall, there isn’t much going on — it is the summertime.

This afternoon, I am taping a radio interview with KFUO Radio — the radio ministry of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod — dealing with the topic: “Should the church be a place where EVERYBODY is welcome?”

A short answer: Yes.

A longer answer: If the church was not welcoming, then the church is a social club with Jesus. A church is where sinners go for forgiveness, and not just certain sinners who have been baptized at a particular church. That’s how I want my church to be – a place where sinners feel comfortable to hear the Word of God, receive His love and forgiveness, and be strengthened to be a good child of God in the world. Call me crazy, but I think all churches should be welcoming of all people.
