Bin Laden Dead: Alleluia?

by Rev. A. J. Iovine

That was a status posted by the New York Post on Facebook earlier this morning continuing the jubilant song that justice has finally come for the worlds most hated human being, Osama Bin Laden. The mastermind of the September 11th terrorist attacks on the U.S., Bin Laden wasn't hiding in a cave somewhere in Pakistan, as was believed by many people since that fateful day. Instead, he was living in a mansion in a heavily populated city in northeastern Pakistan.

U.S. Armed Forces skillfully killed this rat and dumped his rotting corpse at sea, which is probably too good for him. I feel sorry for the fish and other wildlife who will have to swim with his wretched murderous body decomposing in the water.

May 1st was a terrific day for the United States. For fellow families and friends who lost loved ones on September 11, 2001, yesterday will be remembered for the day when President George Bush's promise came true, that the man who caused so many tears to pour down the faces of untold millions would be brought to justice. At the White House, as President Barack Obama told the world of this joyous news that Bin Laden was now fish food, I started to cry.

I am happy he is dead.

I am happy that his final moments were lived staring down at an attack by the greatest military force the world has ever known. I hope he realized that while he found joy in sending others to their deaths, that the world would soon feel that same joy as we gaze upon his bullet-ridden and burned body.

And then around 4am, I started to wonder: Are these feelings I am having pastoral?

Of course, they are not. To sit at home watching the news all night celebrating the death of madman killer is not normal. These thoughts are very sinful.

I will be in church at 7am to praise God, ask for forgiveness, and beg for the strength not to gloat that the murderous thug is dead.
