Is it OK to Eat a Big Mac on Good Friday?

by Rev. A. J. Iovine

Good Friday.

It is the day in which the church remembers the death of our Lord Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of the sins of humanity.

Today is not a day in which we wonder whether or not we should fast or eat tuna fish for lunch. You're not going to be ticketed for eternal damnation if you eat a Big Mac today (though your heart may think it has gone through hell after you eat it).

Good Friday is the day we remember how much we mean to our God that He would send His only Son to suffer and die for us.

It is a sad, yet in a spiritual sense, a joyous one in that the promise of God is fulfilled in the spilling of His Son's blood and the breaking of His holy and innocent body.

Tonight, we will direct our hearts in this manner as we come together at Saint Matthew's Lutheran in New Milford for our annual Tenebrae service beginning at 7pm. If you're in the area, please join us.
